Strike - The Cuckoo's Calling: Episode One is the first episode of Strike – The Cuckoo's Calling. It aired on Sunday, 27 August at 9.05pm on BBC One.

In Mayfair, supermodel Lula Landry falls to her death from a balcony. The official police verdict is that she committed suicide.

Robin Ellacott, a newly engaged 20-something temp from Yorkshire, is sent to the Denmark Street offices of private investigator Cormoran Strike. It is an awkward first meeting as he believes that he had cancelled the temp agency's services.

The arrival of John Bristow kick starts Strike's investigation in the death of Lula Landry. Bristow is Lula's adopted brother and he believes that she was murdered. Strike takes the case, mainly because he is broke and homeless after separating from his girlfriend.

Strike's investigation leads him to Derrick Wilson, the doorman at Lula's Mayfair apartment. He learns that another resident, Tansy Bestigui heard arguing coming from Lula's flat before she fell from the balcony. Strike also questions Nico Kolovas-Jones, Lula's driver. From him, Strike learns that she spent her last day with Rochelle Onifade at a luxury boutique. During the day they had been looking for a piece of paper that would anger her family.

Robin investigates Strike's past, and finds out that in addition to being a war veteran, he is also the son of a groupie mother and a rock star father.

Strike talks to the police who scoff at Bristow's allegations. Having arranged a dinner with Tansy, he is greeted by her lawyer Tony Landry. He is Lula and John's uncle, and warns Strike off the case.

Believing Rochelle to be holding key information and also in danger, he tracks her down. However, she is reluctant to talk about anything.
